some of these photos aren't very good, this is because when we first got into the studio the main focus was just getting a feel off it and how to take photos in the studio.

Playing with Light.

In all of these photos we were testing the lighting and how it affected the look of the model, where it would create shadows, where there would be too much exposure and were the lighting would bring out details and create contrast. The lighting technique we used was Rembrandt lighting. We kept the background white to create contrast between the model and background, on the models face we have created brighter side, I have done this with a fill light, by doing this it brings out detail in one side of the face and exposes the features, on the side which isn’t being exposed by the fill light it is dark, this creates contrast with the background and with the lighter side of the face. to make sure that the side which is dark isn’t too dark I have set up a light with a soft box on, this means light still reaches the face but isn’t to harsh which still creates darkness but adds enough light to create detail on the dark side.

In this picture I have tried to capture the new technique world we live in with the old way and how things used to be, I have capture a tram which is the technique side of it going over an old architectural bridge which show that Nottingham is like now and how it used to be.

When first taking the photo of the boat and building behind the tree I exposed it too much light which took away a lot of detail from the boat and building. when I too the last picture I changed it so that the boat and building were exposed to a regular amount of light but the tree has been under exposed, I have done this on purpose because although the background is exposed to a regular amount of light it is still bright which makes it stand out even more in the foreground (the tree) is dark.   

In these picture when the main focus is the graffiti on the wall, even though the main focus if right in the middle of the photo and is standing out to lead the eye I have used the lining in between the bricks to, I have used these as leading lines to the main focus I have also used the lines to take focus off of the main focus, I have done it to lead the eye to the left of the wall to look at certain textures.

With this photo like the photo earlier with the tram and bridge, I have captured the Nottingham castle behind the new building to show a contrast between new architecture and old architecture and the history of the city and how the city is now. I have captured the main focus which is the castle in the middle because I want the history of the city to be the main focus and not how the city is now.

With these photos I have experimented with the shutter speed and movement, while taking the photos I set the shutter speed to a low speed, while the photo was being captured I experimented with moment by changing the zoom on the lens and by moving the location of the lens, by doing this I have captured movement in a still picture and I have distorted the light.
